About the La Crosse Fitness Festival
The La Crosse Fitness Festival was launched in January of 2008, with the goal of creating an annual festival that will celebrate the commitment of La Crosse and surrounding communities to become America's healthiest city.
Partners in this endeavor include the City of La Crosse, Festival Foods, and Ho-Chunk Nation, in addition to many other sponsors. The second annual La Crosse Fitness Festival will be held May 1 and 2, 2010. The Festival includes a series of aerobic events that provide an opportunity for area residents to demonstrate their fitness and participation in an active and healthy lifestyle. In 2009, the range of events included the La Crosse Marathon, the St. Clare Health Mission Half Marathon, the Three Rivers 5K Run and 5K Walk, the free YEA Riverside Races for children, and the cycling criterium. The wide variety of events encouraged maximum participation by people all ages and current fitness levels. For area residents who want to participate in the long distance running events, but have no prior experience in such activities, a Training Program is available on the LFF website. The Festival is primarily funded by corporate sponsors and entry fees paid by the participants in the competitive events. Any income beyond the costs incurred is donated to the St. Clare Health Mission, the La Crosse Youth Enrichment Association, and Special Olympics of La Crosse. If you have questions about the La Crosse Fitness Festival, contact the Parks & Recreation Department at (608) 789-7533 or Jay Odegaard, Event Director. ![]() « go back |
