About the Festival Foods Grandad Half Marathon

The La Crosse Fitness Festival was launched in January of 2008, with the goal of creating an annual festival that will celebrate the commitment of La Crosse and surrounding communities to become America's healthiest city. Since the creation, additional events have been added to create what is now refered to as the Festival Foods Grandad Half Marathon.

Partners in this endeavor include the City of La Crosse, Festival Foods, and Ho-Chunk Nation, in addition to many other sponsors.

The fifth annual event will be held May 3-5, 2013.

The Festival includes a series of aerobic events that provide an opportunity for area residents to demonstrate their fitness and participation in an active and healthy lifestyle. The range of evnets include: Festival Foods Grandad Half Mrathon, Three Rivers 5K Run/Walk, Coulee Region Bike Tours, and free Riverside Youth Races. Also included in the event weekend is are three events which make up with La Crosse Omnium: Cycling Time Trial, Cycling Criterium, and the Cycling Road Race. The wide variety of events encourage maximum participation by people all ages and fitness levels.

For area residents who want to participate in the running events, but have no prior experience in such activities, a Training Program is available on the event website.

The Festival is primarily funded by corporate sponsors and entry fees paid by the participants in the competitive events. Any income beyond the costs incurred is donated to the St. Clare Health Mission, the La Crosse Youth Enrichment Association, and Special Recreation of La Crosse.
